Susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI) is based on a 3D high-spatial-resolution, velocity-corrected gradient-echo MRI sequence that uses magnitude and filtered-phase information to create images. It SWI uses tissue magnetic susceptibility differences to generate signal contrast that may arise from paramagnetic (hemosiderin), diamagnetic (minerals and calcifications) and ferromagnetic (metal) molecules. Distinguishing between calcification and blood products is possible through the filtered phase images, helping to visualize osteoblastic and osteolytic bone metastases or demonstrating calcifications and osteoid production in liposarcoma and osteosarcoma. When acquired in combination with the injection of an exogenous contrast agent, contrast-enhanced SWI (CE-SWI) can simultaneously detect the T2* susceptibility effect, T2 signal difference, contrast-induced T1 shortening, and out-of-phase fat and water chemical shift effect. Bone and soft tissue lesion SWI features have been described, including giant cell tumors in bone and synovial sarcomas in soft tissues. We expand on the appearance of benign soft-tissue lesions such as hemangioma, neurofibroma, pigmented villonodular synovitis, abscess, and hematoma. Most myxoid sarcomas demonstrate absent or just low-grade intra-tumoral hemorrhage at the baseline. CE-SWI shows superior differentiation between mature fibrotic T2* dark components and active enhancing T1 shortening components in desmoid fibromatosis. SWI has gained popularity in oncologic MSK imaging because of its sensitivity for displaying hemorrhage in soft tissue lesions, thereby helping to differentiate benign versus malignant soft tissue tumors. The ability to show the viable, enhancing portions of a soft tissue sarcoma separately from hemorrhagic/necrotic components also suggests its utility as a biomarker of tumor treatment response. It is essential to understand and appreciate the differences between spontaneous hemorrhage patterns in high-grade sarcomas and those occurring in the therapy-induced necrosis process in responding tumors. Ring-like hemosiderin SWI pattern is observed in successfully treated sarcomas. CE-SWI also demonstrates early promising results in separating the T2* blooming of healthy iron-loaded bone marrow from the T1-shortened enhancement in bone marrow that is displaced by the tumor.SWI and CE-SWI in MSK oncology learning objectives: SWI and CE-SWI can be used to identify calcifications on MRI.Certain SWI and CE-SWI patterns can correlate with tumor histologic type.CE-SWI can discriminate mature from immature components of desmoid tumors.CE-SWI patterns can help to assess treatment response in soft tissue sarcomas.Understanding CE-SWI patterns in post-surgical changes can also be useful in discriminating between residual and recurrent tumors with overlapping imaging features.
Oral Cancer (OC) or squamous cell carcinoma of the oral cavity accounts for approximately 3% of all cancers worldwide, with increased incidence in developing countries. The use of tobacco is directly associated with approximately 80% of oral cancers, especially in older men over 40 years of age. As nearly one-third of the Indian population over 15 years consume smokeless tobacco in one or the other forms, a recent increase has been observed in OC incidence among women and young adults. Lately, the sexual behaviors of young & homosexuals have resulted in the emergence of oropharyngeal cancers due to infection with HPV 16. About 60% of oral cancer cases in India have a five-year survival rate, and this can be improved to 70% to 90% by mere early detection in stages I and II and with various treatment modalities. Despite the well-known benefits of oral cancer screening for the whole population in developing countries remains controversial. It is imperative to address the cultural barriers and societal norms, which limit the acceptability and participation in screening programs in India and many developing countries. This unique challenge of increasing OC morbidity in India and developing countries requires horizontal integration of the health systems with new services focused on cancer control, which gives the best chance for long-term survival, improved outcomes, and affordable care!This article is based on the author’s experience of overseeing 1 case of early detection and 2 cases of delayed diagnosis, outcomes and relevant literature review, and current guidelines for the management of OC.

Presently, available NDD therapies focus on symptom management rather than altering the disease trajectory. This underscores the critical necessity for groundbreaking treatments capable of addressing the root causes of neurodegeneration, offering both neuroprotection and neuro-restoration. This in-depth review delves into the forefront of emerging NDD therapies, encompassing gene therapy, stem cell therapy, immunotherapy, and neurotrophic factors. It sheds light on their potential advantages, hurdles, and recent advancements gleaned from both preclinical and clinical studies. Additionally, the document outlines existing NDD treatments, spanning pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions, along with their inherent limitations. The overarching conclusion emphasizes the immense potential of emerging therapies in NDD treatment, yet underscores the imperative for continued research and optimization to ensure their safety, efficacy, and specificity.

Today, it is well known that Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) has four types of proteins within its structure, between them the spike protein (S). The infection mechanism is carried out by the entry of the virus into the human host cell through the S protein, which strongly interacts with the human cell receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2). In this work, we propose an atomic model of the Receptor Binding Domain (RBD) of the S spike protein of the wild-type SARS-CoV-2 virus. The molecular structure of the model was composed of 50 amino acids that were chemically bonded, starting with Leucine and ending with one amino acid Tyrosine. The novelty of our work lies in the importance of knowing the sites and zones of maximum reactivity of the RBD from the fundamental levels of quantum mechanics considering the atomic structure of matter. For this, the local and global reactivity indices of the RBD were calculated, such as frontier orbitals, Highest Occupied Molecular Orbital (HOMO) and Lowest Unoccupied Molecular Orbital (LUMO), Fukui indices, chemical potential, chemical hardness, electrophilicity index; with this, it will be possible to know what type of molecules are more likely to interact with the RBD structure, and in this way, new knowledge will be generated at the quantum, atomic and molecular level to inhibit the virulent effects of wild-type SARS-CoV-2. Finally, in order to identify the functional groups within the most stable structure and thereby verify the future reactions that can be carried out between the RBD structure and biomolecules, the Infrared (IR) absorption spectrum was calculated. For this work, we used Material Studio v6.0 which uses the density functional theory (DFT) implemented in its DMol3 computational code. The IR spectrum was obtained using the Spartan ‘94 computer code. One novelty would be that we found nine amino acids more that could make the RBD and ACE2 binding further the already known. Thus, the Mulliken charge distribution indicates that the highest concentrations of positive and negative charge are found in the zones 477S, 478T, 484E, and 501N amino acids letting ionic or Van der Waals possible interactions with other structures.

Introduction: Spaced fiber bundles, less evident cell striations, deposition of collagen fiber bundles, and increased presence of fibroblasts in the cardiac tissue of rats that voluntarily and chronically ingested ethanol were observed by our research group. In addition, we observed increased proliferation and cell death of cardiomyocytes. To find out whether these changes lead to impaired heart functionality, some clinical tests were performed. Aim: to investigate whether chronic ethanol decreases the left ventricular performance assessed by exercise testing, electrocardiogram, and echocardiogram of male and female UChB strain rats. Material and methods: ten adult males and ten adult females, Wistar strain rats, named UChB (University of Chile), spontaneous high ethanol drinkers (consumption greater than 2 g ethanol / Kg body weight/day), and ten male UChB rats and ten adults female UChB rats, not exposed to ethanol, UChBC rats (controls) were used. Cardiac performance was evaluated by the stress test, electrocardiogram, and echocardiogram. Results: Exposed females showed ventricular morphological changes in the heart. The exposed females and males had the highest heart relative weight with females being larger than males. The exposed females showed altered electrocardiogram and echocardiogram. Conclusion: Chronic ethanol decreases the left ventricular cardiac performance in rats. Females are more sensitive to changes in cardiac electrical conduction.
Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury (IRI) is the outcome of two intertwined pathological processes resulting from the shortage of blood flow to tissues and the subsequent restoration of circulation to a previously ischemic area. IRI (sometimes just one side of the dyad) remains one of the most challenging problems in several branches of emergency medicine. Mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticulum dysfunction is a crucial pathological factor involved in the development of IRI. The sigma-1 receptor (Sig1-R) is an intracellular chaperone molecule located between the mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum with an apparent physiological role in regulating signaling between these cell organelles and serves as a safety mechanism against cellular stress. Therefore, amelioration of IRI is reasonably expected by the activation of the Sig1-R chaperone. Indeed, under cellular stress, Sig1-R agonists improve mitochondrial respiration and optimize endoplasmic reticulum function by sustaining high-energy phosphate synthesis. The discovery that N, N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT) is an endogenous agonist of the Sig1-R may shed light on yet undiscovered physiological mechanisms and therapeutic potentials of this controversial hallucinogenic compound. In this article, the authors briefly overview the function of Sig1-R in cellular bioenergetics with a focus on the processes involved in IRI and summarize the results of their in vitro and in vivo DMT studies aiming at mitigating IRI. The authors conclude that the effect of DMT may involve a universal role in cellular protective mechanisms suggesting therapeutic potentials against different components and types of IRIs emerging in local and generalized brain ischemia after stroke or cardiac arrest.

Pulmonary hypertension (PH) in sickle cell disease (SCD) is associated with a mortality rate of 37%. There is an upregulation of adhesion molecules which leads to the expression of endothelin-1, a potent vasoconstrictor. A prospective, descriptive study was done to determine the safety and efficacy of macitentan in patients with SCD and PH. Continuous variables were reported as mean ± SEM or percentage where appropriate. We screened 13 patients and recruited five. All five patients were adults. Data were analyzed as appropriate by student t - test. Statistical significance was assumed at p < 0.05. Baseline pulmonary hemodynamics obtained by right heart catheterization and systemic hemodynamics were (± SEM): mean pulmonary artery pressure (MPAP) 32 ± 8 mmHg, right atrial pressure (RAP) 9 ± 4 mmHg, pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR) 257 dynes-sec/cm5 and CI 3·7 ± 0.39 l/m2. Of all parameters, only PVR and 6-min walk distance changed significantly. For the group, MPAP decreased by 15.6%, PVR by 22.5% and RAP by 25.5%. The 6-minute walk distance increased over sixteen weeks except in Patient 4 who had a 3% decrease. The mean walk distance increased in the total distance, from 464 ± 158 meters to 477 ± 190 meters (p .123). In four patients, the adverse events were mild to moderate and did not lead to study drug discontinuation. Significant improvement in pulmonary hemodynamics and exercise capacity in patients with SCD-related pulmonary arterial hypertension. We found that macitentan was safe and well tolerated.
Sexual dimorphism exists in Homo sapiens in many systems. Lately, it was found that it also exists in autoimmune disorders. Generally, it was known that the two genders in humans have different endocrine systems, and therefore hormone hormone-regulated systems show sexual dimorphism. However, in the case of autoimmune disorders, it is not due to directly on hormonal milieu but depends on X-chromosome inactivation in males. Whereas every cell in a woman’s body produces Xist; this ribonucleoprotein contains about 81 proteins. This chromosomal inactivation in males and formation of Xist ribonucloprotein in females is responsible for sexual dimorphism in autoimmune disorders in humans.

Background: Acute leukemia is the result of clonal transformation and proliferation of a hematopoietic progenitor giving rise to poorly differentiated neoplastic cells. Reactive oxygen species play a role in maintaining the quiescence, self-renewal, and long-term survival of hematopoietic stem cells, but it is unclear how they would affect disease onset and progression. The aim is to evaluate, at the transcriptional and systemic level, the oxidative-inflammatory status in newly diagnosis acute leukemia patients. Methods: Seventy acute leukemia patients [26 acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), 13 Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia (APL), and 31 Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML)] and forty-one healthy controls were analyzed. Malondialdehyde and catalase activity were evaluated. Gene expression of NRF2, SOD, PRDX2, CAT, IL-6, and TNF-α was analyzed by real-time PCR.Results: Malondialdehyde concentration was similar in all groups studied. Catalase activity was significantly higher in AML and APL patients compared to controls, while ALL showed similar activity to the healthy group. NRF2, CAT, and PRDX2 expression levels were similar between groups, SOD expression was downregulated in all acute leukemia patients. TNF-α expression was lower in AML groups than in healthy individuals, and IL-6 mRNA expression was downregulated in ALL and APL.Conclusion: This is the first report that correlates transcriptional and systemic parameters associated with the oxidative inflammatory status in newly diagnosed acute leukemia. Some of the parameters evaluated could be used as biomarkers in the selection of an effective therapeutic strategy and will open new directions for the follow-up and evolution of this disease.

The Injection of autologous Adipose-Derived Stem Cells (ADSCs) and Stromal Vascular Fraction (SVF) into dermal and subdermal layers can improve skin volume and rejuvenation. The SEFFI (Superficial Enhanced Fluid Fat Injection) technique, which involves minimal manipulation of autologous microfragmented adipose tissue, was utilized for harvesting and re-injection, using the SEFFILLER™ disposable medical device. Mechanical fragmentation of adipose tissue is a well-established surgical technique that stimulates tissue regeneration, filler, and biological activity. The study evaluated the biological properties (regenerative and anti-aging) of different harvest and processing fat graft methods among which the fragmented adipose tissue, specifically focusing on the presence of exosomes. Exosomes, nanometer-sized vesicles produced by cells for cellular communication, were found to contain miRNAs with anti-inflammatory, regenerative, and vascular content. The products’ contained exosomes were confirmed in the study through electron microscopy, Western Blotting, gene expression, and sequencing of miRNA content.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is the most common cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD). CKD is characterized by progressive liver tissue damage and is an important risk factor for mortality due to renal and cardiovascular outcomes. Thus, randomized clinical trials have investigated the use of sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SLGT2) inhibitors as a promising therapy for patients with CKD and T2DM. This study aimed to analyze the benefits of using SGLT2 inhibitors in patients with CKD and T2DM to reduce mortality risks. To this end, a qualitative, descriptive methodological approach was adopted using a literature review in the PubMed, Embase, and VHL databases. The inclusion criteria were clinical trial articles, randomized or non-randomized, cohort studies, case-control studies, and open access, published in Portuguese and English, between 2018 and 2023 with topics associated with SGLT2 inhibitors, CDK, and T2DM patients. In this context, it was observed that the risk of death from CKD in patients treated with Canaglifozin was 30% lower than in those treated with a placebo and that Dapaglifozin prolonged survival. In this context, when assessing the progression of kidney disease or death from cardiovascular causes in patients taking Empagliflozin, only 13.1% achieved the outcome compared to 16.9% on placebo, so the drug safely reduces the risk of mortality. Consequently, SGLT2 inhibitors have shown excellent results in the treatment of CDK and T2DM, with a reduction in the risk of mortality, positive effects on reducing renal and cardiovascular outcomes, as well as prolonging survival.

Background: Adult patients with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) have traditionally been hospitalized for the duration of intensive consolidation chemotherapy until blood count recovery to avoid complications. Recently, there has been a trend to shift the care of AML patients treated with intensive chemotherapy from inpatient to outpatient settings to reduce treatment costs and save beds. Methods and materials: A retrospective study of AML patients who received cytarabine consolidation chemotherapy between the 1st of August 2016 and the 31st of December 2023 at King Fahad Specialist Hospital in Dammam, Saudi Arabia was performed. Results: Over a period of 7 years and 4 months, 62 patients received a total of 127 cycles of intensive consolidation chemotherapy at outpatient setting. At diagnosis: 12 patients had extramedullary disease, and 17 patients had adverse cytogenetic abnormalities. Following the 127 cycles of chemotherapy, 38 episodes of febrile neutropenia were encountered, and 46 hospital admissions were required. No complications were encountered following 62.2% of the cycles of consolidation therapy and no early mortality due to intensive consolidation therapy was reported. Out of 62 patients studied, 36 patients underwent various forms of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Disease relapses were encountered in 24 patients and the 5-year incidence of relapse for the entire group of patients was 42%. The 5-year leukemia-free survival for the: entire study patients, transplanted patients, and non-transplanted patients were: 43%, 38%, and 50% respectively. The 5-year overall survival for the: entire study patients, transplanted patients, and non-transplanted patients were: 44%, 34%, and 65% respectively. At the end of follow-up: 37 patients (59.68%) were alive, 24 patients (38.71%) were dead, and the fate of 1 patient (1.61%) was unknown as the patient moved to another hospital. Conclusion: Administration of intensive consolidation chemotherapy for patients with AML at outpatient setting is safe, feasible, and cost-effective. The incidence of infectious complications was relatively low. No early treatment-related mortality due to intensive consolidation therapy was encountered. Outpatient administration of intensive consolidation therapy can save beds, reduce hospital costs, and is associated with short-term and long-term outcomes that are comparable to inpatient administration of consolidation therapy.

Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors (PCIs,) are monoclonal antibodies directed against immune checkpoint regulatory molecules. These antibodies inhibit T-cell activation and prolong survival in patients with different types of cancer. However, they can produce adverse effects related to the immune response such as renal damage.We present the clinical case of a 75-year-old man with a personal history of Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) and metastatic renal cancer with lung, bone, and mediastinal involvement. He started treatment with immunotherapy with Nivolumab-Ipilimumab. Then, after 4 cycles of immunotherapy, the patient was admitted to the Urology Department for an adverse reaction to immunotherapy with the development of nephritis and toxic hepatitis. Despite treatment with methylprednisolone, he evolved poorly, and a palliative approach was finally decided.The incidence of acute renal failure attributed to PCIs is estimated at 2% - 3%, being grade I-II in most cases. Among the renal complications associated with PCIs, acute interstitial nephritis is the most predominant with an incidence of 80% - 90% of cases. In addition, an increased risk is observed in patients with intermediate or poor risk metastatic renal cancer.Despite their fundamental role in metastatic renal cancer, we must take into account the potential for renal failure as an adverse effect of PCIs, especially in patients with previous CKD.

Aim: This study examines the pathological outcomes of chronic liver injuries, with a focus on liver fibrosis. It emphasizes understanding the structural changes within the liver that may lead to cirrhosis and functional impairments, crucial for developing targeted antifibrotic therapies.Methods: Our approach reviews existing literature detailing the use of traditional diagnostic methods—biochemical and serological tests alongside liver biopsies. Additionally, we evaluate the reliability and efficacy of non-invasive techniques such as serological test panels and imaging examinations. These methods are compared to understand their viability as supplementary or alternative diagnostic tools to liver biopsy.Significance: Liver fibrosis, if unmanaged, can progress to severe conditions such as cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma, making it vital to understand its progression and treatment options. This study underscores the need for precise and non-invasive diagnostic tools in the clinical management of liver fibrosis, providing insight into the progression of chronic liver diseases and potential therapeutic targets.Conclusion and future perspectives: The research confirms that while liver biopsy remains the definitive method for staging liver fibrosis, its risks and limitations necessitate the use of enhanced non-invasive diagnostic techniques. These methods have shown promising results in accuracy and are critical for broadening clinical applications and patient safety.It is recommended that the scientific community continue to develop and validate non-invasive diagnostic tools. Enhancing the accuracy and reliability of these tools can provide a cost-effective, accessible, and safer alternative for large-scale screening and management of liver fibrosis in asymptomatic populations. Additionally, integrating advancements in radiologic and serological markers can further refine these diagnostic methods, improving overall patient outcomes.

The N-hydroxydodecanamide (HA12) and its complexes tri-hydroxamato-iron(III) and di-hydroxamto-iron(III) chloride (HA8Fe3 and HA12Fe3Cl, respectively) showed antibacterial and antimycobacterial activities. The proteomic analysis demonstrated that the targets of Hydroxamic Acid (HA) and their complexes were involved in the biosynthesis of mycobacterial cell walls. The Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) is one of the key elements to cause oxidative stress, damaging DNA, and cell membranes impaired during the procedure to kill bacteria. Here, the ROS production was determined to evaluate the compounds HA12, HA8Fe3, HA12Fe3Cl, and ZnCl2 against bacteria using 2’,7’-dichlorofluorescein diacetate (DCFDA) by spectrofluorometric analysis. The low fluorescence was observed using the compounds HA12, HA8Fe3, HA12Fe3Cl, and ZnCl2 treating the S. aureus and E. coli, indicating that the ROS production could not be observed using the compounds used at a dose higher than the Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC). It was noted that the ROS determination could be performed with a concentration less than or equal to the MIC. This would enable the mechanism of action linked to the ROS production by HA and their metal complexes to be determined.
Fine Dust (FD) in the respiratory air generates a variety of human disease issues throughout the earth. This study aimed to investigate whether (1) Tussilago farfara extracts (TF) decrease neutrophils accumulation, typical pathological features, and goblet cell hyperplasia in mice following exposure to fine dust (FD); (2) inflammatory cytokines result from FD exposure; and (3) asymmetric dimethyl-arginine (ADMA) and symmetric dimethyl-arginine (SDMA) levels in the mice following exposure to FD. Seven-week-old male Balb/c mice (n = 5/group) were instilled two times by intra-nasal-trachea (INT) injection for 3 days and 6 days to the mice four groups; normal, control, FD + dexamethasone (Dexa, positive control), and FD + TF groups. TF suspended in 0.5% carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) was administered orally to the mice daily for 10 days (100 mg/kg). Neutrophil accumulation, typical pathological features, goblet cell hyperplasia, ADMA, and SDMA levels were assessed on day 10 in FD-induced mice. Results indicated FD significantly reduced neutrophil accumulation in BALF, typical pathological features containing goblet cell hyperplasia in lung tissues, and inflammatory cytokines [interleukin (IL)-17 and tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), macrophage inflammatory protein-2 (MIP-2) and C-X-C motif chemokine 1 (CXCL-1)]. Furthermore, TF significantly decreased levels of elevated ADMA and SDMA by FD exposure. Collectively, TF decreased the counts of neutrophils in BALF, histological changes in lung tissues due to downstream secretion of inflammatory cytokines, and levels of ADMA and SDMA. Therefore, TF may be a potential therapeutics for treating FD-associated diseases.
The Gaussian computational chemistry software package was employed to investigate the molecular structure and energetics of benzothiazole, a compound known for its anti-tumor properties. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were conducted using the Becke, 3-parameter, Lee-Yang-Parr (B3LYP) method, coupled with the LanL2DZ basis set. Molecular structure optimization was carried out to determine the most stable configurations of the benzothiazole compound. Furthermore, thorough analyses of molecular orbital energies, molecular properties, and molecular electrostatic potential surface maps were performed on the optimized molecular system. Our current research suggests that the compound 2-(4-aminophenyl) benzothiazole, containing benzothiazole, maybe a potential drug candidate for free radical species on cells due to its anti-cancer properties.

The stem cell secretome is a collective mixture of soluble and insoluble factors released by stem cells during paracrine communication and/or autocrine signaling. In addition to intracellular communication, these paracrine factors play an integral role in tissue development and generation, acting as the primary driving force in the regenerative properties of stem cells. Despite such great potential of stem cell secretome in therapeutic applications, the lack of secretome-based treatments available for the public at the time of writing is odd and puzzling. Hence, this review aims to provide insights into recent advancements in understanding the stem cell secretome, as well as discuss future possibilities and current limitations that must be overcome for the proper development of secretome-based therapies. Through utilizing the MEDLINE database from the National Library of Medicine® (NLM), we found that while there is much evidence of the therapeutic effects of secretome-based therapy, flaws involving regulations and standardization hinder it from revolutionizing regenerative medicine at present. It is cardinal to emphasize that while secretome-based therapy may be the solution for many untreatable conditions, much research is still required before it is approved for clinical practice.

Background: Stillbirth (SB), either because of intrauterine or intrapartum fetal death, is amongst the most devastating pregnancy complications, hardest to predict, real challenge for health systems. India probably accounts for the highest SB numbers in the world.Objectives: A community-based prospective study was carried out to know the burden, and causes of SBs in rural women of remote region.Material methods: After approval of the ethics committee of the Institute in Maharashtra for broader research, which was service-oriented, the present study was conducted in 100 villages around the village with health facilities. These villages were included keeping in mind future services. After obtaining the consent of women, information was prospectively recorded on their predesigned tool (which was for broader work), by asking women and seeing their records of antenatal and intranatal care on a regular basis. The study subjects were selected after obtaining information from nurse midwives, Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs), and Aaganwadi workers. As the plan was to serve, there was excellent cooperation. The tool was made for broader work. Villages were visited 5 days a week. Study was community-based in villages in remote, hilly region with various local issues so any information the women gave conclusion and was in the record was used.Results: A total of 3905 births occurred over two years, 3635 (93%) term, and 270 (7%) preterm. Amongst 3635 term births, 3474 (95.6%) were live births, 161 (4.4%) SBs, amongst 270 preterm births, 239 (88.5%) were live births, 31 (11.5%) SBs. Of 192 SBs, 48 (7.2%) SBs were amongst 2690 women with anaemia, (16 (2.4%) SBs amongst women with very severe anaemia, 12 (1.8%) SBs were amongst 667 women with severe anaemia, 12 (1.8%) SBs were amongst 664 women with moderate anaemia, 8 (1.2%) SBs were amongst 680 women with mild anaemia). Overall of 192 (4.9%) SBs, 31 (18.1%) SBs were among 517 women with hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDsP) 8 (4.4%) SBs amongst 280 women with moderate HDsP, 12 (6.9%) SBs amongst 175 women with severe HDsP, 11 (6.8%) SBs in 62 women with eclampsia. Overall of 192 SBs, 6 (3.1%) babies had weight < 1 kg, 8 (4.1%) of ≥ 1 to < 1.5 kg, 50 (26.0%) ≥ 1.5 to < 2 kg, 64 (33.3%) ≥ 2 to < 2.5 kg, 64 (33.3%) 2.5 kg and more, obviously fewer babies more deaths in birth weight less than 1. 5 kg, more so less than 1 kg.Conclusion: Overall SBs were in women with disorders but 4.5% SBs did occur in women with no disorder. SBs were significantly higher amongst babies weighing less than 1 kg, beyond this weight, numbers were similar.

Intracranial meningiomas are usually non-cancerous tumors that develop from arachnoid cells in the meningeal envelope. However, there are rare forms called intraosseous meningiomas, which present unique challenges for diagnosis and treatment. In this report, we describe a rare case of a giant sphenotemporal meningioma in a 72-year-old male with diabetes. The patient experienced progressive exophthalmos and visual impairment over a period of five months. Radiological imaging confirmed the diagnosis, showing extensive infiltration into the infra-temporal region. Histopathological examination confirmed a plaque-type meningothelial meningioma. The patient underwent surgical management, which involved maxillofacial surgery. Intraosseous meningiomas are rare but are increasingly being recognized, accounting for about two percent of all meningiomas. The spheno-orbital region is a common site for these tumors. Histologically, there are various subtypes, with meningothelial meningioma being the most common. The differential diagnosis includes Paget’s disease and osteomas. The optimal treatment approach involves extensive surgical resection, followed by adjuvant radiotherapy for any remaining or symptomatic tumors. The prognosis depends on the extent of resection and tumor progression, underscoring the importance of regular monitoring. Early intervention is crucial to preserve visual function and achieve favorable outcomes.
